Build for Habitat for Humanity (Community and Service)

For habitat for humanity we went on a build on Welisara. The place we went to was xxxx and the guy who was representing the habitat for humanity organization name was seksisth, he was very helpful when we had to communicate with the local people. we were Lucky as we had two Sinhalese speaking people when we went there. There was a lot to do when we went there. There was a structure build for which would be used as a toilet which had to be filled in with sand and there was another place just next to the house which needed a structure to be build for another toilet. We had two main goals to accomplish by the end of our 5 hour session in Welisara. The first goal was to make a foundation which would later be used as a bathroom. They provided us with a huge mountain of sand that we had to shovel the sand from there into a square shaped place. And the second goal was to actually build the square structure, but because we were only there for 5 hours and because we didn't have enough people with us, there was no way we could build a structure, so we decided to do as much we can, so the first thing we had to do was clear out the area as there was alot of rocks and stuff there, and dig out a square shaped area which would be a bathroom. lucky for us in the other house the structure of it was done so all we had to do was just shovel the sand in, but there was a lot to fill.
Including Mr riehm five people people came with us on the build. So we divided into one group of three and another group of two. I was with yanik and we had to shovel all the sand into the square shaped structure of the toilet. This seems like the easier task but it wasn't, because it rained the night before the sand was wet and because it dried out the sand was very hard, and it was really hard to shovel the sand in to the shovel. To soften the sand we used this long metal bar thing to stab into the sand so the sand becomes more soft and later you just shovel the sand in. All of these things were totally new things for me that i have never done before, so this was a very good learning experience for me. The guy who was representing habitat for humanity seksith, also helped us complete our goals. The local people who were there really helped us to complete our goals as well. When we were done, i was really tired and i felt like i actually did something good for them.
